BOGODAR KOTOROVYCH

Bogodar Kotorovych, pupil of the celebrated Yuriy Yankelevich and now the leading violinist of Ukraine, was born in Poland but spent his childhood and youth in Lviv, Ukraine.  In 1969 he completed his education at the Moscow State Conservatoire.

He was the prize winner at several international violin competitions including the Enescu Competition in Romania (1967) and the Paganini Competition in Italy (1971).  Since 1967 Kotorovych has taught at the Kyiv Conservatoire (now the National Academy of Music of Ukraine).  During this period he has also given concerts in Germany, Canada, Italy, Holland, France, South Korea, Australia, Great Britain, Bulgaria, Russia and Denmark to great acclaim.

Kotorovych has been a member of many international competitions juries including those of the Premio Paganini in Genoa, the Premio Rodolfo Lipizer in Gorizia, the Carl Nielsen Competition in Odense, the Wronski Solo Violin Competition in Warsaw, the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, the Lysenko Competition in Kyiv, the Benjamin Britten International Violin Competition in London and the ARD in Munich.

In 1994 he was invited to be a Professor of the Conservatory of Sydney.  In 1995 he founded the International Young Violinists Competition in Kharkiv, Ukraine.  Since 1995 Bogodar Kotorovych has been Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the State Chamber Ensemble, ‘Kyiv Soloists’, that numbers some of the finest young violinists in Ukraine.
