MUSICAL
PROGRAMME 2004

 

 


First Round

The Competitor will perform a programme of a duration not more than 45 minutes, which must include:

1.
Paganini: Any two Caprices from the 24 Caprices for solo violin op. 1, one of which must be No. 3, 6, 8 or 12;
2. Britten: Three Pieces from the Suite op. 6 for violin and piano - March, Lullaby and Waltz;
3. A piece for violin and piano from the Classical period (including Beethoven) OR a movement of a concerto from the Classical period (except Beethoven Concerto op. 61) with piano accompaniment. If necessary, any cadenzas should be composed by the Competitor;
4. Any other piece or pieces to make up the required 45 minutes.

Second Round

Competitors should prepare any complete sonata or partita from the Six Solo Sonatas and Partitas BWV1001-1006 by J.S.Bach OR the complete Bartók Solo Sonata. However, the Competitor will be required to perform only one or two movements from the prepared Bach or Bartók.

In addition to the Bach or Bartók, the Competitor will perform a programme of a duration of not more than 55 minutes, which must include:

1.
Obligatory piece composed for the Competition of duration ca. 5 - 7 minutes and made available to the Competitor 48 hours prior to his or her performance in the Second Round;
2. Any complete (duo) sonata for violin and piano;
3. Any virtuoso piece;
4. Any other piece or pieces to make up the required 55 minutes.

Final Round

The Competitor will perform two concertos with orchestra, which must include:

1.
Britten Concerto for violin and orchestra op. 15;
2. Any other concerto written not later than 1915, with the exception of any concerto of which a movement was performed in the First Round.
