After winning first prize in the San Francisco
International Piano competition, Andrew has now established a
reputation as one of the most imaginative pianists of his generation.
At home in both traditional and contemporary repertoire, Andrew
designs programmes which show the links between past and present,
a style of programming that has proved hugely popular.
Recent performances have included
concerts with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Concert
Orchestra, Sinfonia 21 and the New London Orchestra. He has worked
with many distinguished conductors including Diego Masson, Martyn
Brabbins, Nicholas Cleobury, Ronald Corp and Simon Joly. Andrew
has performed at most of the major venues in this country including
a performance of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue for the Last night
of the Autumn Proms at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, a performance
of Rachmaninoff's Second Concerto at the Barbican Hall and a recital
in the BMIC's, prestigious 'Cutting Edge' series at The Warehouse.
This last recital will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3's 'Hear and
Now'.
Andrew frequently broadcasts
on BBC Radio 3, and has also given solo recitals on Classic FM,
German Radio, Czech Radio and two recitals of contemporary Irish
music for BBC Radio Ulster.
Future engagements include concerts
in the Gaudeamus festival in Holland and the Vale of Glamorgan
Festival. The BBC have commissioned the American composer David
Lang to write a new concerto for Andrew; he will give the world
premi?re of this work with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales
in September 2004 at the Vale of Glamorgan festival.
Recordings in 2003 include Andrew's
sixth CD on the 'Guild Music' label of early twentieth century
Swiss piano music. Over the next two years Andrew will record
on the 'Metier' label, the complete solo piano music of Martin
Butler, 'Folklore' by Michael Finnissy and the piano music of
Michael Zev Gordon. Andrew will also be recording the complete
piano music of Schoenberg in early 2004.
