The Competition Jury have announced the
SECOND ROUND RESULTS
After Jury adjudication of the performances in the Second Round on 29 and 30 July the following four Competitors were selected to proceed to the Final Round:

The Competition Jury have announced the
FIRST ROUND RESULTS
All selected Competitors with the exception of Daniel Khalikov, Maciej Labecki and Marta Lelek performed in the First Round of the Competition.
After Jury adjudication of the performances in the First Round on 25-27 July the following eight Competitors were selected to proceed to the Second Round:

the results of the Pre-Selection adjudication that took place
at Goodenough College on 22 May.

The
Competition Committee are delighted to announce that leading
viola player of our time, Yuri Bashmet, has accepted the Committee's
invitation to act as a Patron of the Competition.
Bashmet’s commitment to music and musicians is phenomenal, not only as a soloist but also as a chamber player, conductor and teacher. Bashmet is also a strong proponent of Britten’s work. He received critical acclaim for his performance in the world premiere of Britten's recently edited Double Concerto for violin and viola with Gidon Kremer and the Hallé Orchestra in Manchester in February 1998

The
Competition Committee are delighted to announce the appointment
of the Pre-Selection Competition Jury 2004.
The Pre-Selection Jury for the 2004
Competition consists of 5 acclaimed musicians representing 4 nations.
Convening in May 2004 at Goodenough College, the Pre-Selection Jury
will perform the difficult process of selecting the 24 Competitors
who will be invited to compete in the Competition from over 50 potential
candidates. In an anonymous process, the Jury will consider the
audiotape material submitted by candidates to determine entry to
the Competition. Results of the Pre-Selection adjudication will
be made public on Friday 28 May 2004. Chaired by Rodney Friend (United
Kingdom) the Pre-Selection Jury includes Jeanne-Marie Conquer (France),
Alexei Grynyuk (Ukraine), Lydia Mordkovitch (UK/Russia) and Krzysztof
Smietana (Poland).

The
Competition Committee are delighted to announce that Krzysztof
Wegrzyn Professor for Violin, Hochschule für Musik und Theater
Hannover and Artistic Director, Hannover International Violin Competition,
has accepted the Competition's invitation to sit on the 2004 Competition
Jury. Professor Wegrzyn replaces Colin Matthews, who has sadly had
to step down from the Jury following conflicts in filming schedules
which prevented Mr Matthews from being present to adjudicate the
entirety of the rounds of the Competition.

The Competition Committee are delighted to announce that Maestro Pierre Boulez has accepted the Committee's invitation
to serve as a Patron of the Competition.
Pierre Boulez is one of the most distinguished
composers and conductors in the world today.
Through his compositions and his activities as author, teacher,
and advocate of contemporary music, he has made a decisive contribution
to the development of music in the twentieth century.
